"Come and See" Amateur Photography Competition

Our visual platforms and capacity to engage and interact with our readers offers advertisers unique and exciting campaign opportunities.   Canon’s  “Come and See” campaign message invites consumers to look deeper at the world and inspires people to capture the enriching and captivating stories that unfold all around, every day.

Over a period of seven weeks we ran an amateur photography competition that perfectly encapsulated Canon’s message.  We generated interest and engagement with a competition inviting budding amateur photographers to submit work which captured their local area or community in an original fashion. Finalists were given the use of a Canon EOS 750D DSLR camera and week by week we profiled each photographer’s work.  In the final week, The Journal.ie readers picked their favourite photos via a poll to select the recipient of the People’s Choice Award and all three finalists had their work showcased at an exhibition where a Judges Choice winner was selected.

Initial interest in the competition was very strong, we were offering a chance for amateur photographers to win high-end Canon equipment as well as a unique opportunity to showcase their work. Momentum was maintained over the weeks with a combination of social ads and sponsored articles showcasing the photographers work and culminating in the winner’s announcement.  Article views were strong and social interactions were consistently high as evidenced through the comments and the people’s choice poll.

The photography competition aligned perfectly with Canon’s “Come and See” message and seamlessly utilized the unique opportunities we can offer via our digital platforms.
